Notes on Drautos's past
So.
Because apparently my brain needs details so I can work with a character, this is headcanon for what happened for Drautos to do what he did.
Information that is canonical that I'm starting with:
* Whatever it was, it happened thirty years ago, and it resulted in bad blood between Drautos and Regis.
* Whatever it was, it did not make Drautos hate Nifleheim as much as he hates the Lucis Caelum kings, and Regis specifically.
* It happened probably on the archipelago that Drautos is from.
I have two theories that would account for Drautos hating Regis.
1. Whatever it was happened while Regis was fighting in the military engagement between Nifleheim and Lucis, and Regis did something which, to Titus's teenage mind, constituted betrayal and worthy of loathing. This is, to me, the less likely option, but if somebody wants to play with it, let me know and I'll probably be down with it.
2. When the Wall was withdrawn from the boundaries of Lucis to the boundaries of Insomnia, the protection from daemons it had provided for a long time disappeared. As such, some of the smaller islands may not have had the kind of energy resources that were required to keep daemons out of villages/towns at night, there was no sufficient effort to evacuate them, and were brutally overwhelmed. Drautos may be the only or one of a very small number of survivors from his town, witnessing the slaughter.
With Regis 'serenely' standing by his father's side / supporting his decision to withdraw the Wall, that would account for Drautos's hatred, and his particular attack on Regis's serenity, in their final confrontation.
I am definitely up for discussing these, and they are unlikely to come up in threads under normal circumstances, but if there are preferences to use 1/2/neither (I can do that, though tags may be slower/more difficult to write)/something else, let me know.
